I have lived by the sea most of my life and I can say with certainty that there are few things more pleasant, more beautiful and at the same time more dangerous the seas. Let me give you an example. When I was 18, my mother rented a house by the shore in Amagansett on Long Island. We were lying half way the beach sunning. The day was beautiful. The water was calm. There was not a cloud in the sky. The beach was empty except for two men leisurely swimming. Suddenly, an enormous wave came out of the water and washed us tumbling back to the dunes. Then it receded and all was quiet and beautiful again. The swimmers were gone. It was a rogue wave. The sea had feasted on them. You must never turn your back on the sea.
