Use a round steak and pound thoroughly.

salt, and pepper
the steak; brown in shortening in a heavy skillet. Add enough water to cover
steak. At this point, recipe may be varied by adding onions, mushroom soup,
celery soup, or tomatoes. Cook 1 1/2 hours or until tender. Add water if needed
during cooking. An electric skillet may be used for this recipe at 350 degrees
F.
